Overview

When patching the old site stops making sense

When a redesign makes sense

A website redesign is rarely triggered by one big problem. More often it follows a slow build-up: pages load sluggishly on mobile data, the photos show a team that has since changed, a new service is buried three clicks deep and nobody wants to open the editor because the last change broke something. Each issue could be patched on its own, yet patches tend to pile up into a site that is harder to manage every year. Two Trees Studio, based in Calgary and working with businesses across Canada, treats a redesign as a chance to rethink structure and content together, so the new site fixes causes rather than symptoms.

Protecting what already works

Unlike a brand-new build, a redesign starts with assets worth protecting. Your current pages may rank for useful searches, attract links from other sites and hold content customers still read. We review analytics, Search Console data and your own knowledge of which pages produce enquiries, then sort every page into one of four groups: keep as is, improve, combine with another page or retire. That inventory becomes the blueprint for the new navigation. Visual design begins only once we know what content is moving across, which avoids the classic mistake of a handsome new site missing the pages that used to bring in business.

A careful launch with redirects

Launch is where redesigns usually go wrong, so we plan it carefully. Every address that changes gets a permanent redirect to its closest new equivalent, strong page titles and descriptions are carried forward, and we crawl the finished site for broken links as soon as it goes live. The rebuilt version normally runs on WordPress, which lets your staff make changes confidently afterwards. The scope and price are fixed on paper up front, and the project includes a complimentary SEO audit plus thirty days of help after launch for small adjustments. The aim is simple: a site that looks current, works on every screen and keeps the visibility you already earned.

Benefits

What a well-planned redesign gives your business

An existing website given a fresh layout and tidier structure, planned so current visitors and rankings carry over.

01

Baseline Performance Review

Traffic, rankings and enquiry sources are recorded first so we know what the new site must protect.

02

Page-by-Page Inventory

Every existing page is marked keep, improve, combine or retire before the new structure is drawn.

03

Navigation Rethought

Menu labels and order follow the way people search for your offerings now, not the order pages were added over the years.

04

Refreshed Look and Feel

Modern layouts and type that still feel familiar to returning customers who know your brand.

05

301 Redirect Plan

Old URLs are matched with new ones so bookmarks, backlinks and search listings keep landing somewhere useful.

06

Cleaner, Faster Code

Unused scripts, outdated plugins and oversized images are left behind, which typically speeds pages up.

What's included

Every redesign project includes

Details vary from one business to the next, yet each project covers the points listed here. Extras are quoted in writing before any work on them begins.

  • Analytics and Search Console review
  • Keep, improve, combine or retire list
  • Updated sitemap and menus
  • New visual design for key templates
  • Content transferred to the new build
  • 301 redirects for changed addresses
  • Broken link crawl after launch
  • Free SEO audit and 30 days of support after launch

Who it suits

Situations that usually lead to a redesign

Owner-operators, expanding companies and established Canadian firms begin at the same point: understanding how their buyers look, compare and choose.

A business that has changed shape

New services, new staff or a new market, while the site still talks about the business as it was years ago.

A site that fights every edit

Layouts break when wording changes and pages crawl on mobile. Starting clean removes years of accumulated workarounds.

A rebrand in progress

A new name or logo needs a website designed around it, not a fresh logo dropped onto an old template.

Traffic without enquiries

People visit but rarely get in touch. Reworking structure and calls to action addresses what is holding them back.

How it works

How a Redesign Moves From Audit to Relaunch

  1. Step 1

    Benchmark the Old Site

We collect analytics, ranking data and your notes on what works and what frustrates you.

  2. Step 2

    Reshape and Design

A new sitemap and navigation are agreed, then key templates are designed for your approval.

  3. Step 3

    Migrate and Map

Content moves into the new build while every changed address is paired with its replacement.

  4. Step 4

    Relaunch and Monitor

After switching over we look for crawl errors and broken links and correct anything that appears.

Why us

What we bring to a website rebuild

Rebuilding websites since 2011

Many relaunches since 2011 have taught us where redesigns tend to stumble, and we plan around those points.

The same team before and after launch

Whoever audits your old site also designs, launches and supports the new one.

Scope and price agreed in writing

You approve a written quote before any redesign work starts.

Easy to keep current afterwards

The rebuilt site normally runs on WordPress, so everyday changes stay in-house.

We compare old and new pages together over video before anything goes live. Businesses that would rather deal with a regional team can work with our Vancouver or Winnipeg office.

FAQ

Website Redesign: questions & answers

Short answers to what clients ask us most. Tap a question to see our answer.

Have a different question?Write to us and the answer comes from the people who would build your site.

Do I need a full redesign or just a refresh?

Two Trees Studio

If the structure works and only some photos, wording or colours feel dated, a refresh is usually enough and costs less. A full redesign makes sense when the site struggles on phones, the menu no longer reflects your services, editing is painful or the build underneath is slow and old. Share the URL with us and you will get a frank opinion on which category it falls into.

Will a redesign hurt our Google rankings?

Two Trees Studio

Any large change can cause a short period of movement in search results, but careful planning keeps it modest. Ranking pages are retained, each changed URL is redirected, titles and meta descriptions with a track record are kept, and Search Console is monitored after launch. Over the following months, a quicker and better-organized site generally gives Google clearer signals to work from.

Can you redesign a Wix, Squarespace or hand-coded site?

Two Trees Studio

Yes. Leaving a hosted builder or an ageing hand-built site is a normal part of many redesigns; the new version is usually built on WordPress, or on custom PHP when the requirements call for it. We bring the content over, set up redirects and train your team on the new editor. When the current look is fine and only the platform needs changing, website migration is likely the cheaper service.

Can our logo and brand colours stay the same?

Two Trees Studio

Of course. Keeping a familiar logo and palette helps loyal customers recognize you right away, and the effort then goes into layout, structure and speed. Should your logo look blurry on screens or the colours feel tired, we can propose a light update, and our graphic design team can prepare it in parallel with the website.

How long does a website redesign take?

Two Trees Studio

Size and rewriting are the two big variables. A ten-page service site that mostly keeps its copy can be rebuilt fairly quickly, while a big site holding a long archive of articles, or one where most pages need new text, takes longer. The audit settles early on what stays, so we can give you dates you can rely on and time the switchover for a quieter stretch of your year.

Will our current website stay live during the redesign?

Two Trees Studio

Yes. Your existing site keeps running normally while the replacement takes shape on a hidden test copy. Progress can be reviewed and commented on without customers stumbling onto half-finished pages. On launch day the new site takes over and the redirects are switched on at the same moment, so visitors and search engines move across smoothly.
