Overview

Why the map results play by different rules

How the map pack works

Search for "dentist" or "electrician" on a phone in Moncton or Medicine Hat and Google tends to display a map and three business listings ahead of any ordinary website. That map pack runs on its own set of signals, and local SEO means strengthening those signals. It applies to any Canadian business that serves people in a particular area, whether that is a single storefront, a mobile trade covering a region or a company with branches in several provinces. The core pieces stay the same everywhere: a complete Google Business Profile, accurate details across the web, genuine reviews arriving regularly and a website that supports every claim.

Improving relevance and prominence

Google sorts local results by relevance, distance and prominence. Distance depends on where the searcher is standing, so we concentrate on the other two. Relevance improves when your primary category is correct, secondary categories are chosen with care, every service is listed and the description reads like a real business wrote it. Prominence grows with reviews, photos, consistent citations and the strength of your website. Part of the job is checking the name, street address and phone details, known as NAP, on directories such as Yelp, Canada411 and industry listings, because a former address or retired phone number sitting on one of them can quietly undercut the profile.

Reviews and on-site signals

Reviews need a routine, not a one-week campaign. Together we create an easy habit of asking every satisfied customer, prepare reply wording for good and bad feedback, and steer clear of practices Google prohibits, like offering incentives or only asking people you expect to be happy. On your website we add LocalBusiness structured data, make sure contact details match the profile exactly and decide whether service-area pages would add anything real. Local SEO falls under our Gold plan, $490 a month for 20 hours. Google alone decides who appears in the map pack, so we commit to the work rather than to a placement.

Benefits

What a complete Business Profile brings through the door

01

Business Profile Optimization

Categories, services, attributes, photos and description filled out completely and reviewed on a schedule.

02

Review Request Routine

A repeatable, policy-compliant way to ask for reviews, with reply wording for praise and complaints.

03

Citation Audit

Name, address and phone details checked on directories and corrected wherever they conflict.

04

Calls, direction requests, website taps and search views from the profile reviewed for trends.

What's included

Local SEO work on the Gold plan

Details vary from one business to the next, yet each project covers the points listed here. Extras are quoted in writing before any work on them begins.

  • Business Profile audit and completion
  • Category and service list review
  • Fresh photos and profile updates
  • Duplicate listing removal
  • NAP check across major directories
  • Review request routine
  • Reply templates for reviews
  • LocalBusiness schema on your site

Who it suits

Businesses whose customers are nearby

Owner-operators, expanding companies and established Canadian firms begin at the same point: understanding how their buyers look, compare and choose.

Shops, cafés and salons

Walk-in businesses win or lose customers on the map. Current hours, good photos and recent reviews make you the easy pick.

Mobile trades and home services

Plumbers, cleaners, landscapers and movers can appear across their service region without publishing a home address.

Clinics and wellness practices

People compare ratings and distance before booking an appointment. Accurate categories and steady reviews help you hold up in that comparison.

Companies with several branches

Each branch needs its own verified profile and matching details on the website, so listings support each other instead of colliding.

How it works

How We Strengthen a Map Pack Presence

  1. Step 1

    Audit Profile and Listings

We review your Business Profile and the major directories for missing fields, errors and duplicate entries.

  2. Step 2

    Fix the Details

Categories, services and photos are completed, and conflicting or duplicate listings are corrected or removed.

  3. Step 3

    Build the Review Habit

A request routine and reply templates are put in place so reviews keep arriving month after month.

  4. Step 4

    Watch and Adjust

Profile performance and local visibility are checked on a schedule, and priorities change with the data.

FAQ

Local SEO: questions & answers

Short answers to what clients ask us most. Tap a question to see our answer.

Have a different question?Write to us and the answer comes from the people who would build your site.

Does local SEO matter if I sell to all of Canada?

Two Trees Studio

It depends on how customers find you. If people search for your service with local intent, such as an accountant or a moving company, your Business Profile matters even when you also sell nationally. If you sell purely online with no service area, the map pack plays a smaller role, and general SEO usually deserves more of your hours. We look at your search data before recommending either.

Can a home-based business have a Google Business Profile?

Two Trees Studio

Yes, provided you meet customers in person, either at their location or yours. Service-area businesses can hide the street address from the public and list the regions they cover instead. Verification still requires a genuine address. Using a mailbox service or a virtual office to fake a storefront breaks Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension, so we avoid it entirely.

Why does a competitor appear on the map when I do not?

Two Trees Studio

Common reasons include sitting closer to the person searching, a better-matched primary category, more recent reviews or a more complete profile. Sometimes the cause is on your side: a suspended or unverified listing, a duplicate profile splitting your reviews, or an address that differs from the one on your website. An audit usually narrows the cause down quickly.

How should I respond to a bad review?

Two Trees Studio

Reply calmly, publicly and specifically. Thank the person, acknowledge the issue without arguing over details and offer a way to continue the conversation privately. Later readers judge your business partly by how you handle criticism. A review can only be removed if it breaks Google's policies, for example spam, a conflict of interest or offensive content, and in those cases you can report it.

How soon do profile changes appear on Google?

Two Trees Studio

Basic edits such as new photos, services or a revised description often show within a few days, although Google sometimes holds changes for review. Movement in the map pack is slower and depends on your category, nearby competitors and review activity. We compare performance data over several months so you see the direction of travel instead of reacting to a single search.

Do citations still help local rankings?

Two Trees Studio

They carry less weight than they did years ago, but they still act as confirmation. When your business details appear the same way across directories, maps apps and industry sites, Google has more confidence the information is correct. Conflicting details create doubt for people and search engines alike. A thorough clean-up followed by occasional spot checks is usually all that is needed.
